Gully Emptying in Prestbury
Cheshire East’s gully emptying programme of work will empty and assess all gullies across Cheshire East to ensure they provide the best drainage possible. This programme of work will take approximately 18 months to complete and will allow us to create a baseline and assess any further work required.
Prestbury parish is part of route 19 and work along this route has now been completed as detailed in the attached report.

Cheshire East has experienced a number of prolonged periods of heavy rainfall and various storm events over recent months. These have had significant impacts on some of Cheshire East’s roads and as a result we are working to empty all gullies across the borough.
This revised programme of work will take approximately 18 months to complete and will allow us to create a baseline and assess any further work required.
Our priority remains to keep the highway network safe, however it’s important to note that gullies are designed to provide drainage to the highway surface and the systems they drain into are not designed to cope with intense weather events. In most cases, they discharge into publicly owned sewer systems or privately owned ditches, ponds and rivers. In times of extreme weather, these discharge points are overwhelmed and in turn prevent the discharge of water from the drains. They can also become capped over by detritus and this can reduce the effectiveness of the drains.
